Mike Motsney

Coach Motsney is currently in his 28th year of coaching and teaching. Coach Motsney has dedicated over 17 years to Lovejoy High School as a member of the inaugural team at LHS. He has accumulated six years of experience as a head basketball coach throughout his career. Additionally, Coach Motsney has contributed as an assistant coach in a variety of sports, including softball, track, cross country, and golf.


As an assistant, Coach Motsney was recognized as the 5A-6A Assistant Coach of the Year by the Texas Girls Coaches Association in 2016-17.


Outside of his professional life, Coach Motsney is happily married to Amber and is a proud parent to three daughters. Two of his daughters, Tori and Lauren, have graduated from Lovejoy, while his youngest daughter, Grace, is currently a Senior at LHS.


Before joining Lovejoy, Coach Motsney spent six years as an assistant coach at Hebron High School. Prior to that, he held the position of head basketball and golf coach at area private schools for four years.


Beyond the world of coaching and education, Coach Motsney enjoys spending quality time with his family. He has a passion for new technology, exploring new and unique coffee shops, and indulging in the occasional good book.


Coach Motsney is an alumnus of the University of North Texas, where he earned a degree in Broadcasting. He followed that at The University of Texas at Arlington, completing his English courses and education courses, ultimately obtaining certification to teach. Currently, Coach Motsney is a Senior English teacher at Lovejoy High School.
